2020 Harvest Moon Backyard Party

Harvest moon backyard setup

Fall 2020 felt strange, but the Harvest Moon gave us a reason to gather (safely). We used floating moon lamps as table centerpieces and telescopes for stargazing. Here’s the playbook we saved.

Backyard Setup

  • String warm Edison lights, then place levitating lamps on side tables to echo the real moon.
  • Set up a Sky-Watcher Evostar 72ED near the fire pit for live viewing.
  • Hand out cider + mini notebooks so guests can sketch the moonlight.

Playlist & Activities

  1. Start with lo-fi beats, then switch to acoustic covers once the moon rises.
  2. Encourage guests to take photos of both the floating lamps and the real moon for social posts.
  3. Share moon trivia pulled from weekly science roundups.

Levitating Moon™ Lamp Setup Instructions (Quick Reference)

  1. Place the base on a stable outdoor table and connect to a weather-safe outlet.
  2. Hold the moon with both hands, align over the center, and lower slowly.
  3. Release when the magnet balances; shield from wind if needed.
  4. Tap the base to match the surrounding candlelight.
  5. Keep the PDF instructions on your phone (stored in the Dropbox Content folder) for quick troubleshooting.

Why It Worked

Guests left with Instagram stories featuring both moons, and we gained new subscribers when we followed up with the setup guide + telescope recommendations. Sometimes the best marketing is just a cozy party.
